Wildlife Use of Reclaimed Industrial Sites – Game Cameras Program

This project uses game cameras to understand how wildlife uses industrial sites before and after they have been reclaimed. By monitoring both recently reclaimed areas and sites awaiting reclamation, we track which animals are present, how they move through the landscape, and how they interact with features such as game trails, cut and fill slopes, and naturally regenerating edges.

A key focus is whether animals cross reclaimed areas or stay along the edges and whether wildlife use changes after reclamation, either through different behaviours or the presence of new species. The results help guide reclamation practices that better support wildlife and long-term ecological recovery.
